The Preventive Deicer (PD) has been specially designed for applying a thin, even coating of thickened ADF, with minimum ADF consumption. This is in particular relevant for aircraft at the gate and when quick turn-around times impose restrictions on a traditional full-aircraft deicing operation.
The PD allows the operator to reach the necessary surfaces, and rather than spraying the ADF onto the areas in need for protection (f.ex. where cold-soaked aircraft fuel tanks can cause frost), the ADF is applied by "painting" with long "brooms" with a very low flow and thereby minimizing ADF consumption.
